Undermined or Understood

Culture makes people understand each other better. And if they understand each other better in their soul, it is easier to overcome the economic and political barriers. But first they have to understand that their neighbor is, in the end, just like them, with the same problems, the same questions. -Paulo Coelho

In a world where every news report holds tragedy and mindless celebrity gossip, it is hard to remember that ordinary people like you and me are yearning to be understood. I’m not saying that social media is bad, because like everyone else, I love to stay connected. I’m simply stating that when you’re a pebble surrounded by rocks on the side of the pond, it is hard to stand out and be understood.

I created my blog because I wanted a way to express myself and give people a chance to understand me a little better. I have always been lucky enough to have a great support system, whether it’s my friends or family, but sometimes it was hard for me to translate my thoughts and feelings to them or people that I did not know. For that reason alone, I decided to take a chance and expose myself to the world. In return, I’m hoping that we can all take a chance and try to understand the people around us a little bit better.
