Undermined or Understood

Culture makes people understand each other better. And if they understand each other better in their soul, it is easier to overcome the economic and political barriers. But first they have to understand that their neighbor is, in the end, just like them, with the same problems, the same questions. -Paulo Coelho

In a world where every news report holds tragedy and mindless celebrity gossip, it is hard to remember that ordinary people like you and me are yearning to be understood. I’m not saying that social media is bad, because like everyone else, I love to stay connected. I’m simply stating that when you’re a pebble surrounded by rocks on the side of the pond, it is hard to stand out and be understood.

I created my blog because I wanted a way to express myself and give people a chance to understand me a little better. I have always been lucky enough to have a great support system, whether it’s my friends or family, but sometimes it was hard for me to translate my thoughts and feelings to them or people that I did not know. For that reason alone, I decided to take a chance and expose myself to the world. In return, I’m hoping that we can all take a chance and try to understand the people around us a little bit better.

There are a lot of different words that I could use to describe myself but they would all be useless adjectives. I have a passion for dead writers and sometimes our complex relationship can get to my head. While that could be a problem when I need my beauty sleep; the benefits of my overactive mind could potentially benefit a vast amount of people, only if I share what I lose sleep over. I may or may not inspire people to make a difference in the world because in reality, I’m probably not going to solve the world’s problems overnight or in this lifetime. I only plan on sharing my thoughts and hopefully get people to think below the surface level of their minds. I hope you all enjoy, or not, Akira!

  1. Akira,
I pic that you are doing this. I’m interested to read. But know that I’m inspired because I have always been misunderstood on so many levels, and struggle still to get out what I wanna say. So thank you.
